Hi, my question is for an orthopetic dr. I have been told I have a torn meniscus and have had many steriod injections that have made things better until now. I was told I would have to have surgery on it. I am not 100% convinced after reading that it is a torn menicus? I do feel a popping sensation, but from behind my knee, almost as if was a ligament that moves, or pops? Do you think this is a torn menicus issue?

Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query.I am a resident orthopedician.Torn meniscus can cause popping sensation. If it is left like that it will irritate recurrently and can cause arthritis in future.Steroid injections can get symptomatic improvement but as you over use your knee after the steroid injections it may cause more impairement. So in such case i recommend a diagnostic arthroscopy and correction. With that procedure you will be fine within a week.It can be conducted under spinal anesthesia and with 2 small incisions.Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks
