Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 3 year old niece is currently at the ER with my brother-in-law (her dad). She ingested 2 Celexa. I know that she is at the best place for treatment but I was wondering if there is going to be any immediate danger and if there will be any long-term effects. I am thinking no on the long-term but I would feel more comfortable with an educated answer. Thanks in advance.
Two tablets of Celexa (Citalopram) should not give rise to major side effects in a 3 year old. However, the side effects could be- * drowsiness, dizziness, weakness * anxiety, feeling shaky, sleep problems * vision changes * nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation * dry mouth, yawning * cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, cough * increased sweating
I do not expect long term side effects. If present, long term side effects could include: * changes in weight
I would insist you not to worry, especially because she has already been taken to the ER where the doctors can take appropriate interventions if required.
