Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi; my daughter is 17, and was experiencing panic attack and anxiety and mild deperation. She is on Remeran for a month. She broke up with her boyfriend at the time she started the medication. She is more depressed but anxiety and panic attack is better. Her doctor think the deperation has increased due to the break up. What are the side effects of the Remeron? Would it escalate depression?
Remeron is a medication that should help with both depression and anxiety but sometimes depression may get worse when we start the medication or when there is dose changes so the worsening of the depression can be as well from the medication is there is current dose changes or she has just started it. In this case she needs to speak with the doctor and her suicidal thoughts and ideas should be monitored properly.
If the worsening of depression does not correlate with initiation of the medication or dose changes than very likely the worsening is due to her brake up with the boyfriend or something that is depressing her mood.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
