hello, my wife is 29 years old and 3 months into her pregnancy. we found out from a recent test that her TSH was 10 (high) and after further tests for T3/T4, the doctor suggested to take thyronorm 25 mg daily. she has been taking it for 3 days now. what are the side effects and will it affect the baby? please let me know. - venkatesh from bangalore

Hypothyroidism is very common during pregnancy in which levels of TSH will be high. It is due to extra demands of the growing baby, body tries to secrete more and more thyroid hormone.
Tablet Thyronorm is nothing but T4 hormone also called thyroxine hormone. It is very much essential for the baby's overall development mainly brain. So no need to worry. It doesn't have any harm to the baby.
But take tablets regularly. Do Thyroid profile at regular intervals to check out the hormonal statu.
