We have a new neighbor whom we have known for many years. He is a professional but 2 days ago, he began to rant and rave at one of us because we complained about a barking dog recording that he is using to scare away geese from his yard. We live on a lake. The recording sounds off again and again and again on a rool over. This causes our guests at the lake the inability to sleep. When we asked him to shut it off between 10 pm and 7 am, he lost it....told us that he paid more money for his home than we.....said he is a professional and that he makes too much money to pick up goose poop from his yard. Complained that we had children playing and making noise during the day.....(these were guests). His brother is an alcoholic and I think he my be alcoholic himself or shows symptoms of dry drunk. He is completely irrational with a lot more outlandish things said than I have spoken of here. Can you explain some of the signs that he my be suffering from some form of alcoholism....he claims he doesn t drink. I think he may.
There are several classic questionaires but they relate only to actual drinking behavior. If he is never seen to take a drink, he could be, but the usual measures do not relate to this. The normal questions relate to observed drinking behavior and how it interferes with regular activities: do you feel you need to cut down (and can't). Do you need some first thing in the morning, do other people feel you need to cut down. have there been legal issues with drinking, etc. Also there are measures of total amount of alcohol taken and measures of blood tests. None of these seem relevant here, even though there could be an alcohol problem. There could also be depression there could also just be a personality issue.
