Whilst menstruating, I continue to follow my daily routines normally, however I have noticed that when I shower, my stomach cramps and other causes from period-pain seem to somehow strengthen. Basically, my period pains hurt at most when I shower. Do you think showering is the cause? Is this normal? If so, is there something I can do about it?
Many women experience heavier bleeding and more cramping when they are in a bath, shower or even a steam room. It is likely that the increased cramping you notice during showering is due to your blood pressure dropping when you are standing up in a hot steamy environment. This will cause less blood to be pumped back from your legs and pelvis to your heart- and more venous blood pooled in your organs. This may have some effect on the vascualture of your pelvis.
The bottom line is- it can be normal to feel more cramps or have heavier menstrual bleeding when you are in a hot, steamy environment. Taking shorter showers may help to reduce this effect.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that this information was reassuring.
