My last period was on the 25th October. I am 100% sure I fell pregnant but today have had some mainly dark blood on wiping (a little fresh blood also) throughout the day. I am almost 40, have 13 miscarriages, one healthy 6 yr old daughter and a child die 4 years ago at 5 month gestation with chromosome 18. Is it likely I have just lost another ? I had an egg count of 0.4 2 yrs ago. I know I should give up, emotionally it s torture but I just can t. Vicky
I do empathize your situation and feelings due to so many pregnancy losses, of which one was diagnosed to be due to chromosomal abnormality.
Four yeas ago, your egg count was just 0.4, which is too low to achieve conception. Your age is almost 40. At and after this age, the ovarian reserve of the eggs goes on diminishing and whatever ova present in the ovary are more likely to be chromosomally abnormal. You have history of repeated pregnancy losses and loss of one child in early pregnancy due to chromosomal abnormality. Regarding other pregnancy losses the cause does not seem to have been investigated. So the chances of further miscarriages due to chromosomal abnormalities are fairly high. You have to give a serious thought while considering next pregnancy(ies).
Coming to your current status, pregnancy has to be diagnosed before labelling any small amount of bleeding without products of conception as miscarriage. Urine pregnancy test, Beta hCG test and/or ultrasonography can help you in this. Please visit your Gynaecologist for the appropriate diagnosis and treatment. If you are pregnant and this is Threatened abortion, the chromosomal normalcy of this baby will have to be tested first before taking any decision.
Now coming again back to your query regarding the future attempts of pregnancy. You have take the decision considering such a bad previous obstetric history and mental and physical torture you are undergoing during each pregnancy.
My wise advice would be to adapt a child if you are keen to have more children. It will give you a baby without any further torture and an orphan child would have caring parents like you.
I hope this helps you today.
