Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I went through your history and would like to make suggestions for you as follows:
1. Not exactly
Atenolol causes asthma, but it worsens asthma/asthma like symptoms like wheezing, breathing difficulty etc. So it is not advised to take Atenolol to persons who have such symptoms.
2. Fortunately, there are many alternative antihypertensive medications available. I would suggest you to consult your physician who will change the antihypertensive medication for you.
3. As long as wheezing is concerned, apart from asthma, there are other possibilities like chronic
bronchitis, COPD etc at this age. So I would like to confirm diagnosis of your lung disorder with help of
spirometry with post-
bronchodilator reversibility testing, which measures your lung capacity and type of
airway obstruction as well.
4. I would also suggest you simple measures such as steam inhalation and breathing exercises, which help improve respiratory symptoms on a long run.
Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.
Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.
Wish you the best of the health ahead.
Thank you & Regards.
