Hi, are 1 week old baby has what looks to be an eye infection. how can you tell the difference between a clogged tear duct and an infection? and can it wait until tomorrow until the Dr. office opens? should we take him to an insta care? etc.
I reviewed your history. Clogged tear duct is of common occurrence in newborns and most of them open by 6 months of age. It presents with watering. However tears are not produced till the end of 7-10 days. Any watering in this period is probably because of infection and requires treatment by the use of antibiotic eye drops. Hence I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist tomorrow once it is open for examination and treatment accordingly.
Thank you
