Up at 1 am feeling ill. Almost couldn't make it to the bathroom. Thought I was going to faint, so laid on the bathroom floor. Sweating profusely, peed a little on myself. Shaking and sweating like mad! Thought I might be having a heart attack. Dr. recently said I might be diabetic. Is this hyperglycemia?
These are symptoms of hypoglycemia rather than hyperglycemia. Sweating, palpitations and dizziness is due to low sugar. I would advice my patient to consult the doctor and get his blood sugar tested. Never his a meal when on medication for diabetes. Physical activity, diet and dose of medication should be adjusted accordingly to prevent hypoglycemia. Persistent hypoglycemia may became fatal in some cases. It is advisable to take carbohydrate rich snack during hypoglycemic episode to increase the blood sugar. recurrent episode may be evaluation by your doctor.
