Hi, Welcome to HCM. Herpetic lesions over mouth is common in lip and around mouth due to HSV 1 infection where as it is not necessarily a sexual transmitted one. Even it can occur to children and also transmitted through kissing also. Throat or other inner aspects of mouth infection due to Herpes manifest as multiple tiny grouped reddish ulcers and very painful usually, would heal within a week or two in a normal immuno-competent individual. Strepto coccus infection manifests as reddish congestion around tonsils or pharynx without any obvious ulcers with painful lymph node enlargement.
