Hi,I am Dr. Shivaprasad C (Endocrinologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a health care provider and would like to know more about P-ANCA. I found out what the initials
stand for, know that it can cause kidney failure and
pulmonary hemorrhaging, know the treatment is
large doses of steroids and chemotherapy, as well
as hemodialysis and plasmapharesis. What causes
it? Is it considered an autoimmune disease?
What is the prognosis?
thanks

Hi. p ANCA stands for perinuclear antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies. The major target of pANCA is the enzyme myeloperoxidase. p ANCA have been reported to occur in microscopic polyangitis churg strauss syndrome crescentric glomerulonephritis and wegeners granulomatosis. All there diseases are types of vasculitis. 90% of wegeners granulomatosis have cytoplasmic ANCA. These diseases are not autoimmune but autoinflammatory type of disease. After giving treatment daily oral cyclophosphamide and glucocorticoids, they have a good prognosis.
