What Are The Symptoms Of Pinworms?

Do pinworms cause extended stomach or belly? I only ask because I just realized that my son has what I expect are pinworms (found one on his anus when he complained about itching before bed). I read they can cause stomache cramping which now makes me wonder if that s why he s always sying his tummy hurts. :( I took him for his annual checkup and they examined his stomache but sad it felt fine. The bloating question is for me. I also just read that they are contagious. I have had severe bloating over the last (at least)...could this be caused by pinworms? I already have a dr appt scheduled for something else this week, but thought I d ask here also. Thanks

Hi thanks for asking question.

Pin worm also called enterobius Vermicularis.It can spread by self inoculation means itching anal area with fingers and inoculated by eating food through contaminated finger.

Through contaminated food also it can spread.

Mostly it will lead diarrhea.Here your bloating symptoms may be because of constipation ..due to lack of exercise, low fiber diet and less water.

For further investigation USG will be helpful.

If still no cause identifiable then endoscopy done.

Stool examination and CBC for eosinophilia are good investigation for parasite detection.
