I started with intense pain on only one side (left) of the inside of my butt yesterday which has lead to pain down the back of my left upper thigh. I asked my husband to look at the area tonight & he discovered a line of red raised bumps that he said look like they are developing heads like a pimple. They are only on the inside & the pain has increased to the point that sitting is extremely painful. I have also had a low grade temp & chills this last week, I ve been under a great amount of stress & had increased fatigue. They sound like shingles from what I ve been reading. What are your thoughts?
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
This sounds like Shingles to me too. The features that are suggestive is unilateral location (left side), distribution of pain down to the leg on the same side, and the morphology of the lesions (raised bumps) Shingles Or herpes Zoster is due to reactivation of Varicella Zoster Virus (Vzv) that produces fluid filled lesions in the distribution of the nerve. The lesions are usually distributed in a stripe like pattern and may be accompanied by intense pain. I would suggest that you visit a dermatologist in your region for a confirmatory diagnosis. The diagnosis is usually obvious on clinical examination. Treatment of a confirmed Shingles is with Oral antivirals e.g Acyclovir Or Valacyclovir Or Famciclovir. An OTC pain killer e,g ibuprofen will provide you symptomatic relief from pain.
