Hi,
I'm 42. I have definitely missed a period, but I'm unsure of my dates. I have had cramping for about 8 days. A clear blue pregnancy test indicated not pregnant. I am healthy, on no medication and have regular periods. I have 5 children. What could this mean. Thank you

I understand your concern.
When otherwise regular period is delayed, the common cause in fertile age is pregnancy- but pregnancy is confirmed only when pregnancy test is +ve. You don't remember the last menstrual date,still feel to be pregnant& pregnancy test has turned -ve .This can be due to -
1) premature pregnancy testing.
Pregnancy can be confirmed by-
- blood pregnancy test ( HCG test) done around expected day of menstruation. OR
- after 8 days delay in periods by home pregnancy test.
So you should repeat pregnancy test one week later & get confirmatory result.
2) Delay is because of some other cause ( post illness, weakness, physical/psychological stress, hormonal imbalance) which needs to be investigated & treated under a gynecologist's guidance.
