I have been diagnosed with secondary hypoginadism and have to have an mri done to screen for pituitary lesions. My symptoms are gunpcomastia, random periods of blurred vision and fatigue. Is a pituitary lesion the most common cause of secondary hypoginadism. Shoul I be preparing myself for a sergury?
Hello, I read carefully your concerns. By the symptoms you described it should be a macroadenoma of the pituitary gland that produces high prolactine. Hypogonadism and gynecomastia are due to high prolactine levels, meanwhile the blurred vision may be due to the mechanical compression of the optic chiasma by the big adenoma. Until now we are supposing but the MRI result is the most decisive examination that will decide the diagnosis and the treatment. If macroadenoma is confirmed the first line of treatment usually is the surgery, if there is a small lesion (microadenoma) than treatment is conservative. Hope i helped you to clarify your queries. Kind regards, Dr.Mirjeta
