My two year old went into doc with green snotty nose that started 3-4 days ago, no cough or fever until today. While in the Dr. office noticed that left Lymph or space behind/under ear was swollen and it was a flat swollen not a curve on the top swollen. Dr. said ears, throat and chest all looked and sounded good but ran a strep test and blood work in office. Also sent us to children s hospital for more blood work. Strep test came back positive and white blood cell count was 19,000. Dr wants to see us again Monday and said if swelling gets bigger over weekend then we need to go to ER. Should I be worried or is it a rare thing that his neck or Lymph Node got swollen from Strep?
I understand your concern. Streptococcal pharyngitis or a strep throat usually may present with fever, fatigue, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, swollen lymph nodes, pain on swallowing, bad breath, exudate over the pharynx, swollen tonsils, headache. One may experience, all / most/ few of these.
If not treated they may lead to complications involving the heart and kidney. Hence a medical diagnosis is must to be established, once diagnosed, proper antibiotic treatment will follow which will treat and prevent complications.
Hope this helps, thanks for reaching out, regards, Dr Vignan Rachabattuni
