What Are The Transmission Modes Of Herpes?

Is it possible to get herpes from a tanning bed? I have gotten a blister a few times a year on the right side of my tailbone for over 20 years... It just recurred recently, went to the dr. He took one look at it and said it was herpes. I was shocked! I have been monogamous in my 17 year marriage. How could this happen?

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Herpes is usually acquired via direct contact (skin to skin Or mucosa to skin Or mucosa to mucosa) with abraded skin surfaces or mucous membranes to the virus. Transmission through fomites is rare but can occur as herpes virus can survive for a few hours in moist environment.

Herpes at tail bone is unlikely to have been acquired sexually.
If indeed it is herpes, as confirmed by your doctor, it most likely seems to have been acquired by the fomite route (tanning bed or other inanimate contact).

Regards
