hi! m 4rm india. my mother is 42 and she has been suffering 4rm gilberts syndrome 4past 2 yrs . she currently is suffering from uti due to e.coli.she has been told 2 get injections 4 5 days nd medicines 4 3 months. due u think it wil b cured effectively without much stress to her body???

I am Dr Jigar. Let me help you out in this.

Gilbert's syndrome as you must be knowing is a genetic disorder in which liver cells lack an important enzyme due to which they are at higher risk of hyperbilirubinemia.

UTI with e coli should be treated. You have not mentioned how much is the infection? Also if antibiotic susceptibility must be done to see which antibiotic will work. As we have limited options in using drugs you must go for antibiotic sensitivity with MIC test for uti.

If this test shows sensitivity to fluoroquinolones than they can be used safely in this condition. Take plenty of fluids also.
