Hello,
Thanks for asking this query on HCM.
I understand your confusion and concern.
Femilon is Desogestrel/
Ethinyl Estradiol and its commonest use is as an oral
contraceptive. Her doctor would have given her the tablet to regularise her periods because as the tablets finish there would be withdrawal bleeding and this would make the periods regular. These cycles would be without ovulation and she will not become pregnant when she is on the tablets. Her doctor would be expecting her to have ovulatory regular cycles later, which will help in her becoming pregnant.
Has your wife been investigated for the cause of irregular periods? If she has PCOS, there are medicines which would help reduce the cause of PCOS (
Insulin Resistance) and help her have regular ovulation and regular periods. If she is
overweight or obese, she should also lose weight, eat a wholesome diet and exercise as these would help in addition to the medicines to correct the problem.
If you have any further queries for me, you can find me on HCM website.
Wish you both all the best and may you be blessed with a beautiful baby.
Dr. Noble Zachariah
