What Benefits Would One Get From Taking Lithobid And Lithium Carbonate?
Hi Doc, What benefits would one get from taking lithobid vs. lithium carbonate. I am currently taking lithium carbonate 900mg daily. My dosage was recently increased from 600 mg because my blood level was 0.4. With the increased dosage, I am feeling great but I have developed hand tremors. My doctor said changing to lithobid might be helpful to decrease this side affect. What do you think and if it would improve the side effects, what is the mechanism of action
Lithium carbonate is the drug used in Manic- depressive disorder. The condition is also called as bipolar disorder. Fine tremors are one of the side effects of lithium carbonate. Consult your doctor immediately, if the tremors are coarse disturbing the day to day activities. Lithobid also contains Lithium carbonate which slowly releases the drug because of wax coating. Since the drug is releases slowly over a period, there are less side effects than the other one.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
