What Can I Do About Food Stuck In The Throat Despite Trying To Consume A Few Types Of Drinks?
Hi, I got part of a taco shell stuck in throat. Assuming it is not in windpipe as I have been drinking and breathing ok. I’ve tried drinking soda, water, baking soda with water and bread with water and it’s still there. How long do I give it before calling help? Can I do anything else?
Sometimes, when drinking water does not help then you can cough it out. Try coughing heavily, heavy coughing will help to dislodge food. To dislodge the stuck food, you can take a few bites of a ripe banana to push the stuck food, a moist piece of bread dipped in water or milk may be helpful.
Taking carbonated drinks may be helpful to dislodge the stuck food. If it is just a sensation of food being stuck then you can take PPIs, to get relief. If the food is stuck still and is not coming out, don't fiddle with it. Get clinically examined by an ENT, it will be removed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
