Hi,
Dexpoten syrup is mainly used for cough and cold. It contains
Dextromethorphan, pseudo-
ephedrine a decongestant as well as triprolidine an anti-histaminic. The main constituent- dextromethorphan, though, previously has been categorized in .non-
narcotic group.
However, now due to its
morphine related properties, its properties of addiction and
drug dependence are constantly being recognized. Its misuse as an euphoric agent in place of its therapeutic use is becoming a concern to the health authorities. Hence its classification needs to be revised and it should be made a prescription drug than an OTC drug.
Your symptoms of lack of concentration, problem of focusing, loss of interest and pleasure in life, seem the signs of withdrawal, as you had been taking it for a pretty long time-7 years. Hence in my opinion, you need to see a doctor for treatment of drug dependence on Dextromethorphan as well as a plan for easy withdrawal from this dependence.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
