If your psychiatrist has prescribed 20mg of escitalopram, it is always advisable not to tamper with the dosage of your medication without consultation. The particular dose was given to you because it was the doctor's opinion based on his/her evaluation of your condition. If you reduce the dose, the symptoms will re-appear. If medicines show good improvement it should not be stopped. These medications only keep your symptoms under control for the time being. Please consult your psychiatrist at the earliest.
Hope this helps, Dr A Rao
