Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Can Be The Life Expectancy Of A CHF Stage 3 Patient?
My mother-in-law is 95 and is in the hospital, diagnosed with CHF (stage 3). She is very stubborn and wishes to continue to live alone. Is this even possible and if she insists what is a ballpark guess of her life expectancy? If she allows help at home how much will that life expectancy improve?
I would like to explain that facing her advanced age, and her aggravated functional status, her life ecpectancy remains poor.
Giving numbers, would not help the case, but if a close medical monitoring and a household caregiver would not be available, probably her life expectancy would not reach more than 2 - 3 years (at her very best chances).
I would strongly recommend to provide her with a daily specialised medical support, for guiding properly the medical therapy, and the overall scheduled daily regimen.
This could enable to achieve better results, regarding her quality of daily living and life expectancy.
Hope to have bee nhelpful to you. Greetings! Dr. Iliri
