Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Can Cause Frequent Urination And Salty Taste In The Mouth While On A High Protein Diet?
Hello, I am a 67-year-old male, with a history of Type II diabetes, coronary artery by-pass graft x3 in 2006, radical right nephrectomy in 2011. I have been dieting with a diet concentrating on increased consumption of protein and limited consumption of carbohydrates. This evening, I have had the urge to urinate about every 1-1/2 hours and have a salty taste in my mouth.
There are different possible causes. Some of the causes of frequency are: elevated blood sugar, urinary tract infection, excess or increased fluid intake. It can also be related to your protein intake, protein has a diurectic effect (makes a person urinate).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
