hello doc, My baby is 2.5 months old. he has gas problem from the day he was born. He always streches ,make noise and sometimes cry while passing stool. Now from 5 days he is passing green stool. And sometimes little bit of watery stool while passing gas. Paedratian has prescribed ' Walmycin' drops. but i ahve heard that infants should not be given antibiotics. I am highly confused. Please Help.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Antibiotics are safe for infants. However, I am not convinced that they are needed here. Green stool does not mean there is an infection. If your doctor suspects bacterial infection, a stool sample should be sent to the lab for analysis. Otherwise, I do not recommend taking an antibiotic.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
