my 19 year son had an onset of chest pain last week. He went in to dr and they ran an EKG with negative results. He periodically still has this pain. We (his parents) seem to think a pulled muscle might be the culprit but not sure. He can recall anything he may have done to cause a pulled chest muscle, though.
Hello welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
Your son can have muscular strain pain or some underlying respiratory pathology. The EKG is normal so cardiac cause has been excluded here. I suggest you to consult physician for examination and simply chest x ray can be done for primary work up. If muscle strain is the cause than non steroid antinflammatory drug can be prescribed for that for five days.
Hope I have solved your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
First of all, no need to worry for heart diseases as his EKG is normal. Possibility of musculoskeletal pain is more likely. No need to find out cause for pulled muscle. Follow these steps for better symptomatic relief in musculoskeletal pain.
1. Avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise.
2. Avoid sudden jerky movements of chest.
3. Apply warm water pad on affected areas of chest.
4. Give him simple painkiller like Paracetamol or Ibuprofen.
Don't worry, he will be alright with all these in 1-2 days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
