What Can Cause Severe Chills Despite Keeping The Body Warm?

I am experiencing severe shaking of my whole body and intense coldness [blankets and gas fire make no difference]. This week I ve had two bouts of severe shaking. The latest one lasted up to 3 hours. When the shaking eases I begin to feel rather too warm. I am 77 and have complex medical conditions. I m a wheelchair-user and I manage to live alone. A heart failure specialist nurse does blood checks etc. every two months. All results were fine three days ago. These bouts of severe shaking and shivering are quite scary. Please could you tell me what might be causing them? I think paracetamol helps - but would like to understand more about the condition please. Heart failure was diagnosed 2013 [dilated left ventrical with severely impaired systolic function], atrial fibrilation, an Implanted ICD debifrilator. type 2 diabetes Approx 2006 to 2008n- Uterine cancer and breast cancer [radiotherapy] Original physical disability was caused to TB in my hips in 1955. Hello,

Viral or protozoal (malaria) infection can cause fever with chills and rigors. For viral infection symptomatic treatment of fever by Paracetamol is enough. If this fever is due to malaria then physician's consultation is necessary as you have complex heart problem. For diagnosis of malaria you need to give blood sample for smear examination or bedside card tests are also available.
