What Can Cause Skin Cracks And Open Sores On The Hands And Feet?

My Sister's hands and feet have been peeling and now her skin and splitting leaving open sores . They had said at one time that it was a fungus. Last night and this morning her foot was swollen and her neighbor took her to the E R. They said she was in 2nd stage of Cellulitis.. I was just wondering exactly what that is?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your doctor may be right. It may be cellulitis due to secondary bacterial infection after fungal infection of feet. Edema occurs due to cellulitis. A course of heavy antibiotic may be given with anti inflammatory drugs. Keep her foot raised while sleeping. Apply antibiotic cream after cleansing the area with Savlon liquid. Improve the immunity and hygiene.

Hope this helps.

Regards.
