What Can Cause Tight Sensation In The Throat Followed By Belching?

I m a 58 year old female who is extremely physically fit. For the past week I have be having at tightness in the front of my throat which last for a few seconds and follow by a belch. I don t have chest pain or nausea not numbness or tingling sensation. I get it occasionally during exercise (weight training) . I notice when I lay down it does not happen. If I tilt my head forward sometimes this seems to trigger the sensation. I m not having any epigastric burning. Not taking any prescription medication and have no risk factors.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If you have acid reflux, while belching, there is sour tasting liquid coming up into the throat, causing discomfort in throat.

Other possibilities of throat discomfort or irritation due to infection.

It may be due to esophagitis or thyroid enlargement etc.

Until examination is done, it is difficult to say what it is.

Use tablet Pantoprazole.

If the symptoms not improved please consult your doctor, he will examine and treat you accordingly.
