What Can Cause Trouble In Breathing?

Hello.
For a while now I have been noticing that my heart feels like it is racing and going to jump through my chest, and when this happens - I feel the need to take in deep breaths and all.
This does not go away when I rest nor lie down... I just took my pulse - 73 bpm. and I'm 44 years old.

Hello and welcome to HCM. I carefully read your question and I understand your concern. But don't worry.I'll try to explain you something and give you some advises.
As you explain,my opinion as cardiologist is that we are dealing with a rhythm issue. You may feel increased heart rate and this heart jumping feeling for different reasons. It may be a simple tachycardia. It means that your heart beats over 100 for minute. Its normal range should be between 60-100 beat for minute. You may experience tachycardia for different reasons beginning from a simple emotional stress to different pathology like anemia, hyperthyroidism ect.
You may all sow experience palpitations because of extrasistoles. This are escape beats originating from different parts of the heart. You have this filling, that your heart jumps, an anxiety sensation and difficulties in taking a deep breath. They may have a lot of causes.
So,if I was your treating doctor I will recommend you to do some examinations like a simple blood analysis to look for possible anemia, your thyroid hormones to exclude a hyperthyroidism, electrocardiogram, echo cardiography and a holter monitoring to document your rhythm tendency. This for a simple check up because you are a yang person and should not worry.
At mean time avoid coffee and caffeine products because they rise your heart frequency. Only if you feel that your heart is jumping fast and in a irregular, chaotic way i will recommend you to do an electrocardiogram in that exact moment to you nearest doctor to document the event and see what is it.This might help for the treatment.
I hope I was helpful.Wish you good health.
Best regards

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that 73 bpm is quite a normal heart rate. If your racing heart feelings are occurring at such a heart rate then, it may be explained by just an increased sensibility and an anxiety component.

Nevertheless, to assure that no any other pathological reasons is responsible, it is important a careful physical exam, coupled with a resting ECG and an ambulatory ECG monitoring (Holter).

Some additional blood tests are necessary: a complete blood count (to exclude anemia), thyroid function test (FT4, FT3, TSH), fasting blood glucose, blood electrolytes level, etc.

If the above medical exams result normal, then it is necessary to discuss with a therapist (psychiatrist) for excluding an anxiety disorder and the underlying treatment.

Hope to have been helpful! Greetings! Dr.Iliri
