What Care Should Be Taken After Infant Falls Off The Bed?
my 6 month old son just fell of a bed (80cm height) after my wife walked away and let my sun unnoticed, i heard a big thumb while being downstairs and heard my son crying instantly. the floor is hard concrete with some carpet over it, thats where he fell onto. my question is he seems alright, besides the crying thats caused of the big scare.....should i be sure and wake him each 2 hours in the night to make sure he doesnt have a concussion (dont know how to write that)
A fall from 80 cm height on to a carpeted floor is unlikely to cause significant head injury in an infant. Anyhow, just watch for abnormal drowsiness, recurrent vomiting or abnormal movements (seizure) for next 18-24 hours. It will be a good idea if you can wake him up and feed occasionally to assess sensorium. If no such symptoms, we need not worry. Acetaminophen can be given for pain relief if needed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
