What Cause HIV Positive With Qualitative RNA Negative?

Hi. I am 10 weeks pregnant and the result for hiv came back positive in the routine bloodwork at the ob/gyn office. It said it was repeatedly reactive. However, in the supplemental test result for AB 1/2 it came as non reactive. I got another blood test which was RNA qualitative which came back as negative. My ob/gyn refered me to a specialist and I went in today to get tested for RNA pcr and helper t lymph cd4. I am very scared. Please help. Note: My husband and I are loyal to each other since we got married 5 years back and I underwent a heart surgery 3 years back where i had blood transfusion. But I have always been a healthy person.

Thank you for query.The chances that the screening test at your OBG office would be false positive is high.As they are sensitive and these screen such that we do not miss cases.The RNA PCR is more specific test and is more reliable.If both are loyal to each other and there is minimal possibility of acquiring HIV by other routes then your next repeated tests and will come negative for HIV.You can relax.You can get back directly to me for any clarifications with the details.All the best.Dr Bharatesh D Basti Dermatologist and Venereologist.
