Hi,

If you have always had regular menstrual cycles, this abnormal bleeding pattern calls for further evaluation. Hormonal disturbances, which may or may not be transient are the usual cause of such situations. Sudden weight disturbances, stress, infections, use of certain medications, ovarian cysts etc., are some of the causes. A proper clinical evaluation followed by essential investigations like blood counts, urinalysis, hormone profile and sonogram of the pelvis are needed to plan further management. Styptics help to control the bleeding.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shanti Vennam, OBGYN
