my mother 58 year old is suffering from joint pain with swolling for long two year . doctors advised to take calsinose ,a nasal calsium spray and calsium tablet. after taking it for long time it does not bring any satis factory result. what I can do now
Hi, Thanks for asking. Swelling and pain in the joints is due to arthritis. In the elderly, it is osteoarthritis. During inflammatory or acute episodes, it causes severe pain and swelling. At other times, it will be more of a chronic pain and severe at nights.
Your doctor has advised the medications for bone strengthening. However for joints, you need to take further treatment. I can suggest you the following: 1. Passive exercises and muscle strengthening around the joints to improve mobility and also to strengthen muscles, so that joints are not damaged further 2. Weight reduction 3. NSAIDs painkillers, to reduce pain. 4. Collagen, chondroitin and glucosamine supplement.
X-ray is necessary for confirmation. Any further queries, happy to help again. Dr. Prakash HM
