What Caused My Cramps And Vaginal Bleeding?

I am a 58 y. O female. Last period was 9 years ago. I woke up last night with cramps and vaginal bleeding. I am using a low dose estrogen patch for hot flashes and to help with sleep. I was a day late changing patches. Would that be the cause? Should I be alarmed?

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Sudden withdrawal from estrogen patch can lead to cramps and bleeding from the uterine cavity, due to the hormonal disturbances in the uterine lining.
I suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist to get properly examined internally to rule out any other pathology in the uterus, cervix or vagina and get appropriate treatment timely.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
