What Causes Hashimoto S Thyroiditis?
I was wondering what caused my immune system to attach my thyroid? I was diagnosed with Hashimoto s Thyroiditis and was told that the antibodies were in my blood. I did have some of the classic and unpleasant symptoms. I am on Levothyroxine and doing well on that. I will mention that 2 years prior to that I had a partial hysterectomy. Could that have triggered it? I guess I was just wanting to know why?? :)

Hashimotos Thyroiditis and subsequent Hypothyroidism is a common endocrine disorder and unfortunatly it is commoner in females. This is an auto immune condition. This means that your body's immune system attacks your own thyroid cells and might eventually destroy the cells. There are many causes which can precipitate this attack like a viral attack, trauma, post partum period, +ve family history, selenium deficiency etc.
