What Causes UTI And Dizziness While On Atorvastatin And Ciprofloxacin?

I have been taking Atorvastatin 20mg. for Cholesterol for about four weeks. Last week, I developed a Urinary Tract infection. The doctor prescribed Ciprofloxacin 250mg twice a day for ten days. I started taking this medication on four days ago. Today, I feel some nausea and slight dizziness. Should I stop taking one of these medications, or would it be ok to continue both?

Hi dear. Thanks for trusting HealthCareMagic. I have understood your query. I hope you're in good condition right now.

Atorvastatin as anti cholesterol agent has several adverse effects. nausea is one of atorvastatin's side effect, as many as 4-7% feel nausea after using it. but atorvastatin doesn't trigger dizziness.

while Ciprofloxacine as antibiotics from fluoroquinolone class may cause nausea (3%), vomitting (1%), headache (1%) and dizziness (

there's no interaction between Atorvastatin and Ciprofloxacine if they use together. you can consume both of them safely.

If I were your treating doctor, I would suggest you to continue using these drugs with caution:
1. consume ciprofloxacine after meals, so it will avoid nausea feeling.
2. use atorvastatin at bedtime. you can re-check lipid profile laboratory after 4-6 weeks using atorvastatin, to get dosage adjustment.
3. do not directly stand after waking up, you should sit for a while before getting up. it prevents dizziness. you may have postural hypotension. so do not move on rush, but slowly.
4. please consult to your local doctor if the symptoms still happen or get worsen. also if any others side effects happen to you.

I hope these can be helpful for your question above. if there's another problem you want to discuss, feel free to ask me in HealthCareMagic. Take care. I hope you'll get better soon.
