What Causes A Bloated Stomach After A Laparoscopic Appendectomy?

I had a laparoscopic appendectomy 10 days ago. I’m not sure why, but ever since the surgery my stomach looks huge. When I attempt to take a deep breath and suck my stomach in, I am no longer able to do so as I was before. Is this bloat or swelling from my surgery? Is it normal for it to last a week and a half after surgery? Is it going to be like this forever now?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is completely normal to have slight abdominal distention, discomfort and slight tenderness after laparoscopic appendectomy. There are various factors that define speed of total recovery of the body after laparoscopic surgery such as, type of anesthesia or medications used during the surgery and your overall health status etc.
It usually takes about two weeks for total recovery and for your abdominal organs to fully resume their function.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Dr. Malik
