What Causes A Cold, Throat Congestion, Cough Spasms With Fever?
9 days ago, I felt a cold coming on so I went right to work on it. Felt good for the next 4 days except some night time throat congestion. The next 3 days I experienced one or two rather violent cough spasms each day and now my temperature is low grade (97), (still diligently working on the cold). But the thick congestion is still not going away. How serious does this sound? Of course it's the Thanksgiving weekend and offices are closed.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems like upper respiratory tract infection leading to formation of thick mucous in upper respiratory tract, congested sinuses and coughing due to infection and throat irritation.. You should take a course of antibiotics like Erythromycin, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, suck throat lozenges, do warm saline gargles, steam inhalations and use a humidifier in your room.. You should take decongestants like Phenylephrine to relieve congestion, mucolytics like Bromohexine to loosen mucous and easy drainage and saline nasal sprays..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
