Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
The
Mirena IUD keeps you from menstruating because the local effect of the hormone in the device suppresses the growth of the endometrium. The endometrium is the lining that a shed every month during
menstruation.
What concerns me, however is the fact that you began having intercourse within a week of your
hysteroscopy. At that time, your uterus may have still been dilated from the procedure, which put you at risk for infection. The bleeding that you had after intercourse may not have been your period at all, but actually bleeding from your
cervix from trauma during intercourse.
Because you also exhibit symptoms of a possible
urinary tract infection, I suggest that you see your GYN doctor back for evaluation. You may need antibiotic treatment evaluation if he or she suspects infection.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today, and that this advice was helpful. Again I want to reemphasize that I do recommend a medical evaluation for your symptoms.
Best wishes, and I hope you feel better,
Dr. Brown
