What Causes A Dark Brownish Patch On The Temple Region?
Hi Dr., I noticed a dark brownish redish patch on my right temple. I am a male in my late 30s and have a tanned or olive skin color. I noticed this after cutting my hair. I might have burned myself with the clipper as it was very hot to the touch. Maybe I burned myself without noticing. How can I tell If it is a burn or something that has developed over time? And was are the treatment in both cases. Thank you
Hi and welcome to HCM If you have never noticed the dark patch before and think it may be a burn, just observe it over the next few days. it will darken and heal like a regular wound and burnt skin may peel off, leaving a mark depending on how deep it is. But since you have no pain, burning, infection, it may have been a very light graze. If it feels like a wound, do apply a light antiseptic till it dries. If it persists, or you notice it spreading do get it checked. Do you have any other illnesses or treatment you are on? Any history of allergies? or application of hair coloring products etc? If you are sure it wasnt there earlier and is persisting, without any symptoms, I would advise you to get it looked at by a dermatologist, who can diagnose exactly after observation and give you treatment. Also a skin biopsy can be done to rule out certain conditions. Hope this helps.
