What Causes A Dark Purple Bruise With A White Centre On The Shin?

My 4-year-old son has a 1.5-inch round dark purple bruise on his shin that has a round whitish center. He says it doesn t hurt, and doesn t remember what caused it. It has been there for about a week. I wonder if I should take him to the doctor, or wait another week or so.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi,

Your son might be suffering from erythema multiforme, it is an allergic response to herpes virus infection but can occur also due to some drug intake. In most cases it is self limiting in nature but in few cases mid potent and corticosteroids is needed for the treatment.

Hope it helps. If you have any other question please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards,
