What Causes A Dark Streak On The Toenail?

My husband has a dark streak in his toenail running from the cuitical to the end of the nail. I want him to see a Dr. but don’t know if we should see a dermatologist or an g.p. I also have what looks like a bruise on one of my toenails that has been there for at least 4 months, should I be worried about it, I have had Melanoma in the distant past. Thanks Sue W.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

According to me, the chances of melanoma is high in hour husband. Please visit your dermatologist as soon as possible. If he/she rules out melanoma, you can be relaxed. But please do not delay consultation.

Regards,
Dr. P. Siva Subramanian.
