Hi doctor , I had acrylic nails a couple of weeks ago and when I removed then I noticed a green/brown spot on the middle of my nail. It does not hurt or bother me I am just wondering if it could be a bruise since I might of hurt myself when taking them off or if it s fungus . Thank you
Hello and welcome to HCM From your description, and the short duration of your complaints, it seems the spot is most probably injury related, and maybe a blood clot or bleeding that is healing now, thereby leaving the colour. In that case, it will clear in a week or so by itself. It would be on the nail bed under the nail, so watch as the nail grows to see if the nail itself is discoloured or its a bleed under the nail. In that case you can get a nail scraping test for fungus and treat with an antifungal for a few weeks. For this you may consult a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis. Amorolfine ointment daily or a weekly application of amorolfine nail laquer can be applied. Observe the nail for a few days and consult a dermatologist if persisting. Do not try to scrape it off. Hope this helps.
