My son developed a light itchy rash in the groin area at first and then the next morning had a fever and sore throat. Since then he has been diagnosed with strep and is on antibiotics and the fever and sore throat are gone but the rash has gotten worse and is spreading from the groin area to his buttocks, torso, arm pits, and upper legs. What can be done do get rid of this rash. We have tried hydrocortisone cream and Benadryl but no change in rash and he just keeps itching like crazy.
Hi. the rash in groin could be tinea cruris (a fungal infection) and hydrocortisine has probably aggravated it. I suggest you to stop hydrocortisone and apply miconazole/ sertaconazole cream twice daily. It should show some improvement in a week. Although, you may have to continue for 3-4 weeks. Hope it helps
