Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi my fiance is in the hospital he went for bad stomach pains but they saw that his heart rate was real low and was talking about pace makers. He s only 26. They say that his intestines were twisted up so that was probally the cause of the bad stomach pains but they dont know whats going on with his heart. Thats what they said the first time they admitted him and released him after 3 days and said to follow up with a heart doctor, this time his heart rate dropped to 27. what could be wrong?
Hello. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
Well, at this young age, all the factors should be excluded, and I am referring mainly to any drugs he could be on, that have cardiac heart rate depressing side effects. If not, then I would recommend a pacemaker implantation, since the heart can take up to a certain amount of time on working on these kind of figures. A pacemaker is a device that, simply put, does not let the heart stop. The problems of the heart generating and conducting system can be genetic or acquired in early years, but more important than the etiology right now, is the solution. You should discuss with a cardiologist about the possibility of doing this procedure, and then proceed with the intervention for intestinal problem.
I hope I was helpful with my answer. Wish him a good health.
Kind regards, Dr. Meriton
