What Causes A Low Sex Drive?

Think im asking the right type of doctor!
Im a 19 years old girl, and i seem to have pretty much lost my sex drive :/
I always had a pretty high sex drive before, and in the last few months its pretty much vanished. After doing a bit of googling, i have seen that this could be caused by something serious :/ no specifics as to what tho :/ Its rally getting me down, and causing a bit of tension in my relationship, as my other half is convinced its his fault. Help anyone?

Hello,

You are suffering from low sex drive. You have not mentioned what let you down. If your bf hurt you either emotionally or physically then you should talk to him so that you can heal faster and better. However, there are other factors that can cause low sex drive like stress, hormone imbalance; recent childbirth, age, or thyroid issues. Hypoactive sexual desire disorder, frequent lack of sexual desire due to some traumatic event like sexual abuse (in either childhood or adulthood), pain or discomfort during sex in case of loss of natural lubrication.

Certain medications may affect the sex drive like blood pressure medicine and some anti-depressants. Be careful what medicines you take. Sometimes, when you do not get orgasm, you may get uninterested in sex. In such a case your bf can finger you and bring you to experience orgasm before penetrative sex. Take care of your self, exercise regularly to boost your self esteem.

Take healthy home made food. Make sure you are wet before having sex. Foreplay is important, prolong it. Get thyroid and hormone testing done. You will be treated accordingly. Get clinically examined by a gynecologist to make sure you are not suffering from any other ailment. If needed you will be referred to a psychiatrist or a councilor. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
