What Causes A Lump In The Lower Abdomen?

My grandmother has a lump the size of a apple in her lower abdomen this has just appeared in the last few weeks she was in hospital for another reason and the doctor examined her and was quite rough it left her very bruised around the lower abdomen could this have something to do with this lump

This may be a hernia which occurs when there is a weakness in the abdominal muscles. I suggest she sees her doctor to enable a full examination and possibly a scan to make the diagnosis.
